Monday 9 March 2020. We drove to the Dandenongs today, Labour Day, for a picnic and a bushwalk. We chose the smaller of the two picnic grounds (known as the Doongalla Stables Picnic Area) on the Doongalla Forest Rd, accessed via The Basin in Melbourne’s east. Doongalla Forest seems to be quieter than other parts of the Dandenongs, which are often overrun. After our picnic we headed north along Stables Track, left on Bills Track, then right on Edgars Track, which we followed as it veered sharply to the right and began heading south. We then turned right onto Camellia Track, and finally right onto Doongala Forest Rd and back to the picnic ground. The route is approximately four kilometres and took around 75 minutes. The bush along the way is somewhat dry, but the walk was very pleasant , with plenty of birdsong.
