Sandy Point Nature Reserve, Williamstown

Sunday 26 April 2020. The Handels visited this tiny coastal reserve after a game of cricket at the adjacent Greenwich Reserve, located at the northern end of the Strand in Williamstown. Sandy Point tapers to a breakwater that extends into Hobsons Bay, the northernmost part of Port Phillip Bay, next to the mouth of the Yarra River. Scrubby coastal plants, mudflats and waterbirds characterise the reserve, while views of Melbourne’s docks, complete with the comings and goings of enormous container ships and other vessels, add considerable interest.
